A Love Affair with Coffee Filters

I simply love the romantic vintage hues of these garlands put together by Pam Garrison. Who would have thought these were made from coffee filters, sewing pattern paper, tissue paper and string! I am so inspired by these to make one and string in some pearls. She also made some gorgeous pom poms (below), also from coffee filters.

New Year, New Inspirations

Happy New Year and welcome back to Laissezfaire! Hope everyone had a good break from whatever you usually do and got to spend some quality time with family and friends! I know this sounds cliche but I can't believe it is 2009! It really seems like yesterday we just celebrated the turn of the century.

I will kick start the new year here at laissezfaire by sharing some amazing places and inspiring work I recently discovered. Top of the list has got to be the lyrical work by Russian Graphic artist Yulia Brodskaya. My jaws dropped when I first came across her work at Oh Joy.
I also came across these lovely handcrafted menus at The Casual Poet, a little store-cum-coffee shop in Singapore which sells a nicely curated selection of books, t-shirts, stationery, and other wonderful creative goods.
And if you are still looking for calender for the new year, this would be perfect! You can even personalise the calendar to include your "logo".

Ideas to reorganise your workspace

I am in the process of reorganising my work area at home and decided to do a bit of research online for some good ideas on how to organise one's workspace. Here are some fun ideas I found from Martha Stewart crafts.(above) This ribbon organiser is an ingenius ingenius way to keep those ribbons from entangling each other!

(above) An great idea to organise my spools of thread and other sewing nik-naks.
(above) Transform tin cans into stationary holders with your favourite vacation ephemera, such as maps, menus and posters or decorative paper.
(above) These drawers with painted blackboard labels is a good way to get organised, again and again.
This simple but beautiful idea will allow one to create an inspiration or notice board using decorative paper and a few clipboards. Simply cut the paper to the clipboard size, glue onto the board using decoupage glue and viola! My favourite idea of the day.

Aren't these lace buttons simply gorgeous? They are designed by UK-based textile craft designer Laura Walker. Laura has a special interest in embroidery which she expanded on by designing and making ceramic buttons. Her buttons are available in a range of sizes and colors through GlimseOnline. Clever ideas to declutter

I came across this clever idea on HGTV on how to recycle tin cans to wonderful storage organisers. For more ideas and instructions, click here.

(above) "Hot glue heavy-duty magnets to ten soup cans and stick them to a steel cookie sheet. Hang it within kids’ reach using a plate hanger. Use the cups to hold crayons, chalk, markers and even Legos. Label the cans for easy clean up."

(above) Organise the little odds and ends in the drawer with these tuna cans!

(above) Now this is something I need to do! "Bolt three eye-catching blueberry cans to a wooden cutting board with a frame hanger on the back."

Envelope Accordion

I came across a wonderful craft project which can be used to organise all your small odds and ends such as stamps, tickets, coupons, and business cards. The project is simple enough to do and will made a wonderful personalised gift or even a special wedding keepsake to store up little memories you have of the day.
